The story behind November Gale's name.
A “Gale of November” is an autumn "witch", or storm, whose power is known to toss and sink ships on the Great Lakes. Furthermore, "November" is used time and time again to express a melancholic aesthetic. In Moby Dick, Herman Melville conveys a “drizzly, damp November in [Ishmael's] soul.” In her song “Evermore”, Taylor Swift sings about a similar feeling: “Gray November/ I’ve been down since July”. The use of “November” continues to imply sorrow and disconnection, of reflection and deep emotions. It is the perfect time to close a season of your life in anticipation of a new one. Novembers and their hardships isolate us, and they change us. Just like a Winter Witch on Lake Michigan, they leave wreckage behind in our souls and space to build something better. And just like sea glass, the waves in our lives sand down our sharp edges and leave us ancient, beautiful, and altered. I want to be smoothed over by time, and I want to take back my powerful, gloomy Novembers. That's why I chose "November Gale". I hope you choose it too.
